James Earl Smallwood – Obituary

F.12.12.18 James Smallwood.jpg James Earl Smallwood, of Leighton, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of 81. His visitation will be tonight at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, from 6 to 8 p.m. He will lie-in-state at the Cowboy Church of Colbert County on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Truman Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

James grew up in Pride and has lived in Leighton for most of his adult life. He was a laborer for Ameripride for over 30 years. He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Colbert County and of the LaGrange Living Historical Association. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a loving friend who enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Smallwood; son, James Elmer Smallwood; parents, John Wesley and Hazel Smallwood; and brothers, Charles and Robert Smallwood.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Smallwood (Tina); daughter, Rose Ann Smallwood (Jennifer); sisters, Virginia McCaig, Mary Inman and Glenda Colagross; six grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Austin, Cecil, Buddy and Sammy; five great-grandchildren; and faithful dog “Jettie.”

Pallbearers will be Keith Smallwood, Michael Inman, Ken Smallwood, Tim Inman, Justin Smallwood and Matt Reed.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and especially to Katie Looney and Amber Herban for their invaluable care.
