Macke Mauldin, President and CEO of BancIndependent, Inc., accepted the recognition on behalf of the Bank and the Mauldin family. He explained his father, the late Edward Fennel Mauldin, never graduated from college but was a lifelong learner who deeply appreciated the value of the college experience. “Bank Independent’s mission is to make a positive difference in people’s lives,” said Mauldin. “We pledge the support of our 575 team members, and we challenge the scholarship recipients to remember the kindness that has been shown to them and to pass that kindness along to others.”

Dr. Glenda Colagross

“The Northwest-Shoals Community College Foundation Patriots Circle represents a special group of individuals or businesses who have donated $100,000 or more to the Foundation,” said Dr. Glenda Colagross.   “We wanted to recognize donors at this level who are partnering with the Foundation to provide scholarships to our students.  Bank Independent and the Mauldin Family are the first members of the Patriots Circle by establishment of the Edward Fennel Mauldin Memorial Scholarship Endowment.  This scholarship was awarded to two of our students for the 2018-19 academic year.  We appreciate our donors and want to acknowledge our gratitude for the difference made in the lives of our students through their generosity.”

The Edward Fennel Mauldin Scholarship also is awarded annually to six students at the University of North Alabama, and two students at Athens State University. It is part of Bank Independent’s mission to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
