Children’s play tells a classic story, an endearing and enduring tradition

SHEFFIELD-“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” will be presented by Timeout for Theatre at the Ritz Theatre on Sunday, December 9, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 and $7 for students: available for purchase through the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N. Water St., Tuscumbia, by calling 256-383-0533 or at tvaa.net.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” written by Barbara Robinson and directed by Darren Butler, tells the story of a church aghast when the wildest, toughest kids in town take over the leading roles in the annual Christmas pageant. Fitting the seemingly unsuitable children into their Biblical roles brings laughs out of the audience as the Hermans collide with the Christmas story head-on. In doing so, they help everyone else rediscover its true meaning.

Children’s theatre plays an important role, introducing many audience members to live performance for the first time and also allowing children and teens to experience performing on stage and sharpen their skills for larger projects.
