ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson reports a fatality occurred due to a person being struck by a train on Monday, November 26:
“Tonight at 9:10(Monday, November 26) the police department was notified that a person had been hit by a CSX train near the South Street crossing.
Officers searched the area and located the body of a female north of South Street. Currently this case is under investigation, however we believe this will probably be a suicide.
We can not release the name of the deceased at this time due to the family hasn’t been notified. Once the Coroner notifies us the family has been notified we will be able to release the name.”
