Gerald McGath, 80, passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018 at the North MS Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1938, in Duluth, MN, the son of Howard and Mae McGath. A career Marine, Gerald spent 20 years proudly serving his country. After his retirement from the military he worked in several capacities including truck driver, working at the Lee County Multipurpose Center and as a caretaker at Parkway Baptist Church. Gerald was an avid runner from his high school days, well into his seventies, logging hundreds of miles in his life time
Services will be 11 AM Monday at the Lee Memorial Chapel with Bro. Eddie Clayton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-6 PM on Sunday afternoon.
He leaves behind his wife Ruby Paulette McGath of Tupelo; 3 sons, Michael McGath (Nina) of Janesville, WI, Mark Ritter (Melissa) of Nettleton and Greg Thrasher (Heather) of Pontotoc; 5 daughters, Terrie Osborne (Scott) of Elkhart, IN, Myra Duckworth (Terry) of Saltillo, Deidra Cato (Kenny) of Nettleton, Shoney Hall (Jerry) of Nettleton, and Melinda Ritter of Tupelo; 3 sisters, Shirley Swapinski, Sandy Williams, and Sue Ostman; 2 brothers, Leroy McGath and Douglas McGath; 28 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sherrie L. Hathaway and a son, William H. Townsend.
