Nelene Smith Spillers – Obituary

Funeral for Nelene Smith Spillers, 94, of Decatur will be Friday Nov. 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Gary Patton and Tim Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.

 

Nelene S. Spillers who died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, was born Feb. 12, 1924 in Danville, Alabama to Arthur Smith and Bessie (Pittman) Smith. Mrs. Spillers graduated from Danville High School in 1943. She worked at an airplane factory, Hester Battery and attended business school in Nashville, TN during World War II. She married Malcolm M. Spillers on Dec. 21, 1945 at the end of the war. Mrs. Spillers was a caregiver to the elderly and did baby sitting for family and friends. Mrs. Spillers was a member of Somerville Road Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bessie Smith, her brothers, Guy, Rolf, and Dwight Smith, and her husband, Malcolm M. Spillers.

Survivors include her sons, Steve (Bonnie) and Danny (Celeste) Spillers ; five grandchildren, Amanda Spillers Summers (Blake), Ben Spillers, Sam Spillers (Carly), Heather Spillers Ritson (Aran) and Kimberly Spillers; one great grand-daughter, Darcy Summers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
