Bess Agnes West – Obituary

F 11.20.18 Agnes West.jpgBess Agnes West, 97, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Mabry Health Care and Rehab Center in Gainesboro, Tennessee, after residing there only six weeks. She was born in Florence, Alabama on September 22, 1921, to Marvin L. Moomaw, Sr. and Bessie Wallace Moomaw. In addition to Tennessee and Alabama, Mrs. West lived at times in New York, Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. She was a retired EKG technician and was a member of the Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence. She also spent several years as a member of the Shoals Dulcimer Association and the Friday Fretters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11 am in the chapel of Spry-Williams Funeral Home in Florence with Mrs. West’s son, Charlie West, officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 and from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Stony Point Cemetery.

Agnes West is survived by one son, Charles Paul West (Dolores) of Baxter, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Alana Johnson Parker (Don) of Sheffield, Alabama and Charles David West of Baxter, Tennessee; two great-granddaughters, Emily Mothershed of Sheffield and Sara Mothershed Todd of Muscle Shoals; two great-great-grandchildren, Brayden Isaiah Smith of Sheffield and Knight Jacob Mothershed of Muscle Shoals; one sister, Nell Hamilton of Decatur; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. West was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin L. Moomaw, Sr. and Bessie Wallace Moomaw; her daughter, Betsy Johnson; one great-grandson, Jared Mothershed; two brothers, T.C. Underwood and Marvin L. Moomaw, Jr.: and one sister, Deedie O’Ste
