Obituary of Jessie "Junior" Putman, Jr Jessie Putman, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at home. Jessie was born on April 2, 1929 in Limestone County and made his home in Elgin Crossroads. He was a member of Elgin Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and faithfully taught Adult Sunday School until becoming home bound. Jessie loved studying the Bible and sharing his knowledge with anyone who would listen. Mr. Putman was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Putman and Verlie Covington Putman; his wife of 62 years, Mary Christine Hammonds Putman; along with sisters, Louise Berness, Joyce Putman, Nell Holden, Peggy Putman, Doris Myrick and an infant sister; brother, Dennis Putman and half-sister, Janie Putman. Jessie is survived by sons, Ralph Putman (Paulette), Jimmy Putman (Betty) and Danny Putman (Lisa); sisters, Bobby Wright and Verlie Rideout (Bobby); brother, Gene Putman (Sherry); along with half-sisters, Annette Putman, Cassie Cleveland (Paul) and Frieda Michael (Coy); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Elgin Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday at 1:00 pm at Elgin Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Putman will be laid to rest at Barkley Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Roselawn Funeral Home of Decatur, AL is honored to serve the family of Jessie Putman, Jr.
