Athens Police Arrest Suspect On Theft Charges

 ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement on the arrest of a suspect charged with Theft of Property 1st among other charges.  The suspect was arrested on Monday, November 12:

“William Cody Clark was arrested yesterday for 3 counts of unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle, one count of theft of property first degree, one count of theft of property 2nd degree and one count of criminal mischief 3rd degree. All the thefts occurred between November 8, 2018 and November 13, 2018. All cases involved entering vehicles or trailers in the area US 72 and I 65. The unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle charges came from tools being taken from a truck at Holiday Inn Express last Thursday night, tools being taken from a truck last Sunday night at the Best Western and papers and a case being taken from a car yesterday at the Best Western. The theft first charge is from tools being taken from a trailer at I Hop on Sunday. The theft 2nd is from the theft of tools from a trailer at the Super 8 on last Thursday night. The criminal mischief 3rd is from damage to a trailer Clark attempted to break into at the Days Inn on Sunday. The total amount of tools taken is estimated to be $11,430.00. Most of the stolen property has been recovered.

Clark was arrested after one of the victims observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Days Inn. Investigator Jonathan Caldwell located a room at the Best Western Clark had been staying in. When Clark left the Best Western Officers Bobby Hand and Justin Hairrell stopped him. Harrell was booked at the police department and later transferred to the county jail. The investigation into these cases is ongoing at this time.”
