Thomas Andrew “Tom” Barnett, Jr. passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Hospice Family Care in
Huntsville, AL with beloved family members providing love and support.

Tom was born in Charleston, SC on July 1, 1945 to Thomas Andrew, Sr. and Druce Hoover Barnett.
The family has deep roots in Huntsville since the early 1800s, but had moved to Charleston in the 1940s.
The family moved back to Huntsville in 1957 in preparation for work with the upcoming NASA space program.
Tom attended Madison Academy and ultimately was employed by the Chrysler Corporation. He was a member
of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where many friends and family members still attend, moving his membership
there from his church in Charleston in 1957. Tom was a lifelong bachelor and car enthusiast. He collected and
tinkered with cars all his adult life. Even throughout childhood he loved cars. He could name every make and

model of car by the time he was 7 years old and built and collected a profusion of model cars. He was a
sweet, happy soul who loved singing hymns, rock and roll, and country music. Tom was a devoted son
and loving brother. He loved his family and his dogs. His warm smile and sense of humor will be greatly
missed by his family and friends.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Patricia Barnett, his nephew Walter Laxson IV and his
great niece Kathryn May Burnette.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Barnett Posey (Kenneth), brother, Rodney Otis Barnett, his nieces
Gabrielle Laxson Pace (Chris), Nicole Laxson Joner, Tiffany Posey Konenkamp (Joe), Lesley Posey Burnette
(Darryl), Stephanie Barnett Froehlich (Dan) and nephew Kenneth Lee Posey. He is also survived by great
nieces Drew Laxson Joner, Payton Pace and Olivia Pace; great nephews Jackson Froehlich, Cole Froehlich,
Hayden Konenkamp and Wen Burnette.
A memorial service for Mr. Barnett will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Mount Zion Baptist Church, 228 Mt. Zion Road, Huntsville, AL 35806.
Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the American Lung Association, the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research, the United Mitochondrial
Research Fund (UMDF), Hospice Family Care, 10000 Serenity Lane, Huntsville, AL 35803, Mount Zion
Baptist Church at the above address or to your favorite charity.
