Verna Louise Foster Whitten – Obituary

Verna Louise Foster Whitten, age 98 of Huntsville, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018. She was born March 20, 1920 to Joseph H. and Mamie Dillard Foster in Hackleburg, AL. She was a 1940 graduate of Freed-Hardeman College, a 1942 graduate of Auburn, and then married Clinton William Whitten on June 27, 1943. She was a second grade teacher in the Baldwin County school system and was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Huntsville.

Mrs. Whitten is survived by her four children and their spouses: Alan and Merle Maddocks Whiten, Jo Ann and Johnny Polk, Virginia and Terry Carden and Mary and Greg Blake; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one brother, William J. Foster. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Virginia Foster McClendon.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 10th from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Spry Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm with Jack Henson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Freed-Hardeman University, the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort or Liz Hurley Fund, Huntsville Hospital Foundation
