Darrell Carson – Obituary

The funeral service for Darrell Carson, age 68 of Wadley, will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Randy Anderson and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the Forester’s Chapel Cemetery in Randolph County.

Mr. Carson passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He was a native of Atlanta, GA and after graduating from North Clayton High School began to work for Georgia Power. Shortly thereafter Mr. Carson was inducted into the U.S. Army and served for two years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he began a career in the construction industry as a home builder. In 1980 his family relocated to Clay County area. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was also a dedicated fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. Carson enjoyed Gospel music, was a big Elvis fan and had attended Rocky Creek Baptist Church in New Site.

He is survived by four sisters: Neda Goss of Douglasville, GA, Marsha Poe (Nelson) of Wadley, Janice Cotney (Richard) of Wadley and Sharon Morgan (Ricky) of Talladega; one brother, Barry Carson (Becky) of Woodland plus a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his parents: Neal and Louise Carson and one brother-in-law, Norman Goss.

Neal Carson, Brian Carson, Ryan Anderson, Walt Albright, Bruce Albright, Richard Cotney, Nelson Poe and Ricky Morgan will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. \
