Juan Christobal Manchego – Obituary

Twenty six years of marriage were not enough, my love.

Juan Christobal Manchego, 57, lost his battle with bladder cancer on October 10th, 2018.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to so many.

Chris was rich in what mattered…a family that loved him, a job that he loved, a farm full of animals, his Dodge Ram diesel truck, and a fridge full of beer to share with his friends. The only thing he didn’t have plenty of was time. Chris loved life. Each day was a new adventure. He loved working with his hands and collected every tool imaginable. He loved shooting and teaching gun safety. But time with family and friends meant the most to him, especially if he could rib them about politics or watch an Alabama game. As any great uncle will, he enjoyed teasing his nieces, Elena and Rachael Crase, who gave him the nickname Uncle Trouble. Chris loved his wife and daughter, showing them and telling them how much he loved them every day, always ready for a kiss and a hug, and always a kiss for his wife as he left for work. He was so proud of his daughter and never hesitated to tell her so.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Jan Mayes Manchego; his daughter, Jordan Raine Manchego; his mother, Minnie Manchego; his brother, Mike Manchego and daughter, Santana Manchego; his sister-in-law, Jennifer Mayes and sons, Hunter Fitzgerald and Cole Fitzgerald; his father-in-law, Carl Mayes, all residing in Huntsville, AL; his sister, Kelly Crase and daughters, Elena and Rachel of Nashville, TN; his brother, Ray Gomez of Las Cruces, NM, and sons, Ray Gomez Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, Richard Gomez of Torrance, CA, and Cipriano Gomez of Las Cruces, NM; those who fondly referred to Chris as an uncle, Curtis Cloud, Howard Rochelle, Chase Smith, and Lance Smith; cherished aunts and uncles and cousins across the country so numerous that we could not possibly mention them all; and, his Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the memorial service immediately following in the chapel.
