Frances Burks Evans – Obituary

Frances I. Evans Frances Burks Evans was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, to Maude Duren and Troy Burks on December 29, 1923. She married John L. Evans on April 18, 1944. Fran Evans earned an Associate’s Degree from Memphis Business College. She was one of thousands of women who worked as a riveter on B25 and B17 Bombers used in World War II at the Memphis, Tennessee Aircraft Division owned by General Motors. Fran later began working for General Motors as the Purchasing Agent in Doraville, Georgia. Fran worked for GM for 39 years before retiring. She was an avid gardener and was a founding member of the Hillcrest Garden Club. Fran enjoyed Square Dancing and traveling with the North Peachtree Baptist Church Seniors Group. She attended Skyland Methodist Church in Chamblee, Georgia.

Fran Evans is preceded in death by her husband, John L. Evans, her mother, Maude Duren Adkins,
her father, Troy Burks, and long-time companion, Alton Davis.

Fran Evans is survived by her four children: Robin Evans, Mark and Paula Evans, Wendy Evans Titelman, and Tim and Beverley Evans. Fran is also survived by her brother, Dan Adkins. She dearly loved her eight Grandchildren: Dawn Evans, Amanda Evans, Derek Evans, Molly Gent, Alexandra Titelman Berger, Jennifer Titelman, Emily Reese, and Philip Evans. Fran has five Great-Grandchildren: Basia Gaskey, Finn Gent, Scarlett Gent, Jake Gent, and Ryleigh Reese.

Family and friends may visit with Fran’s family at Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah, Tennessee, from 2:00-3:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm at the Crump Community Cemetery.
