MUSCLE SHOALS – Service One Transport is a large, professional company that operates big-rig trucks all over North America, shipping product from nationally known companies year-round. Hurricane Michael, which devastated so much of North Florida has rendered our state neighbors with a great need for supplies. And Service One is answering the call.

Robert Walker sent The Quad-Cities Daily this media release to illustrate how rapidly he and Company President Kelly Robinson, along with their excellent staff and seasoned, professional drivers responded to the call for help in the Florida Panhandle.

“As soon as we heard the hurricane was coming into the panhandle of Florida we started preparing for our response to the pending disaster. That preparation includes making sure all equipment is in good shape; working with drivers making sure they are mentally prepared  to handle what they might see and have to do to deliver and return to safety themselves, because this is a tough job, and witnessing the devastation is sometimes difficult to process. It’s important to be prepared, because the need to get the relief supplies to the people there is so critical.

We work with operations from FedEx and emergency organizations to chart the tracks and plan a course of possible drop points for supplies and generators.

Our drivers are seasoned disaster responders and have a good knowledge of reading the signs of weather. That’s necessary, because these men and women behind the wheel, because of many closed roads, may have to alter their delivery route on-the-fly.

We don’t ask our new drivers to participate in the mission. This kind of emergency response work requires precision and good situational awareness, so we always use the best of the best.

Our main point of relief this disaster was Tallahassee and Orlando, delivering initial emergency equipment to get businesses open and to assist rescue personal to get up-to-speed.

In many cases we set the command center up for disasters in the hurricane zone and use it for many weeks or longer. In some cases we leave some of our equipment on site for long periods of time and use it to recover some items to store for the next time the need arises. We want to be there to help wherever and whenever we get the call.”

Service One is a company that The Shoals can be very proud of!
