Robert Greer Brown, 82, made his transition to be with God on October 4, 2018. Robert was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating from high school in 1955. While stationed at Oceana Naval Base, he met the love of his life, Ruth A. Haynes of Virginia Beach. Robert and Ruth married in 1961. In 1963, Robert became a Field Engineer for International Business Machines (IBM) in its Norfolk, Virginia office. Robert worked there for 30 years, until retiring in June of 1993.
Robert leaves to celebrate his memory and legacy; two children, Michael Brown (Stephanie) of West Orange, New Jersey, Ronda Brown Esaw (David) of Mitchellville, Maryland; two sisters, Mildred Johnson (George) of Tuscumbia, Hattie Finley of Muscle Shoals; one brother, Frederick Williams (Margaret) of Tuscumbia; four grandchildren, Kendahl, Christian and Cameron Brown of West Orange, New Jersey and David Esaw of Mitchellville, Maryland; a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, friends and former colleagues.
Robert’s wife of 51 years, Ruth Haynes Brown, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Millie Thompson Williams of Tuscumbia and his father and brother, Charlie and Sam Brown of Detroit, Michigan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 15, 2018 at First Lynnhaven Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Interment following the service at Colonial Grove Cemetery, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
