Pershing Hoyt Sheffield – Obituary

Pershing Hoyt Sheffield, 83, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Plantersville, September 26, 1935, to Lurton Hoyt and Elizabeth Lucille Foster Sheffield. He was a graduate of Mooreville High School and attended Itawamba Junior College studying auto mechanics. Hoyt worked in the car business for 60 years in Tupelo. In 1955, he formed Tupelo Auto Sales, Ltd with his brother George. In 1973, he owned the second largest Subaru dealership in the United States. In 1980, he became a dealership owner for Chrysler Dodge Jeep which he maintained until 2015. He was an avid NASCAR and football fan. He was a long-time faithful member of St. James Catholic Church where he was an active member of Knights of Columbus.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. and conclude with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Hoyt on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at
1 p.m. at St James Catholic Church with Father Tim Murphy presiding. Burial will be in Plantersville Cemetery.
