ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a female suspect on Wednesday, October 10.  The suspect has been charged with burglary 2nd Degree:

“This morning shortly after 5:00 the police department received a call from the 900 block of Coleman Ave about a male subject screaming outside his residence.

When officers arrived they located the victim he told officers he was asleep inside his residence. He said dogs started barking and woke him up, he then saw a lady in his residence. When officers arrived the female had left the residence. The victim had followed the lady down the street to a residence in the 700 block of Coleman Ave.

Officers talked with the owner of the second residence and he told them Cheri Jean Twitty had knocked on his door and he let her in. Officers located Twitty and arrested her on a warrant for unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle. The victim then told officers about a baby stroller that had been left at his residence.

Officer Randy Vickers found a check book in the stroller. The address on the check book was from the 500 block of 5th Ave.  Officers contacted a person at the home on 5th Ave and they identified the check book and the stroller.

Apparently Twitty had gone into their unlocked vehicle earlier in the night. Twitty was also charged with burglary 2nd degree and another count of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle. Twitty was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. The warrant Twitty was originally arrested on this morning was from a vehicle she took a cell phone from on September 23, 2018 in the 600 block of Hwy 31.”
