Kirstin Elizabeth Cooksey-Moody – Obituary

 Kirstin Elizabeth Cooksey-Moody, age 31, departed this earthly life at 4:15 am October 7, 2018, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN surrounded by her family following a four-month battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Kirstin was born to George and Lisa Cooksey on December 22, 1986 in Fort Campbell, KY.  She spent her younger years in Fort Leavenworth, KS and eventually returned to Tennessee where she graduated high school from Clarksville High School.  She demonstrated that her incredible beauty was matched by her intellect by attending the University of Alabama-Huntsville where she graduated with degrees in Art History and Geographic Information Systems.  She interned at NASA before returning to the Clarksville area.

On November 17th, 2017, she married Captain Cade M. Moody.  They lived happily together, unimpeded by life.  The following May she was diagnosed with cancer while she was pregnant with their son.  Thomas Moody was born and she immediately started chemo treatments.  She fought for her life until the very end.

Kirstin was an amazing woman inside and out.  Despite her many achievements, her proudest achievement was becoming a mother.  She did everything she could to ensure Thom was cared for until the very end. She was the epitome of resilience and perseverance as we should all strive to be.

Kirstin was preceded in death by her father George Cooksey and grandparents, Cooksey (Joseph and Rose) and Tanksley (Everett and Myrtle).  She is survived by her beautiful baby Thomas Moody, her husband Cade Moody, her mother and step father Lisa and Walter Romei, her sister Nyssa (Brent) Adkins and her niece and nephew Emory and Jude Adkins.

Services will take place on Friday October 12, 2018 at Annunciation of The Lord Catholic Church, 3910 Spring Avenue, Decatur, AL.  Visitation and Rosary from 3:00 – 4:00 and Mass at 4:00 pm with Parkway Funeral Home directing.  Interment to immediately follow at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens, 3740 County Road 434, Moulton, AL   Memorials may be made to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation or contact Brent Adkins for a trust for Thomas at badkins@qcmetals.com or 931-217-4412.
