MUSCLE SHOALS-Following their announcement of a new codeshare partnership with Boutique Air, United Airlines announced that the airline is going to cut greenhouse emissions by 50% and power its jets with biofuels. United Airlines CEO, Oscar Munoz, says this decision was based on an effort to make flight schedules more reliable and skies cleaner. “Reducing our dependence on oil is good for business too, because fuel is our second largest and most unpredictable expense,” Munoz says. United Airlines is now the first U.S. airline to make a public commitment to reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions—50 percent by 2050—furthering their long-standing goal to be the world’s most environmentally conscious airline. Achieving this goal would eliminate 21 million metric tons of CO2 in the atmosphere per year, or the equivalent of taking 4.5 million cars off the road; that’s all the cars in Los Angeles and New York City combined, according to an article by Business Insider. Munoz goes on to say, “Regardless of whether oil prices rise or fall, the inherent volatility and environmental impact of fossil fuels exert their own costs, to the bottom line, the customer and the planet.” For more information, click hereTo book your codeshare flight with Boutique Air or United Airlines visit boutiqueair.com or United.com
