Jerry Carlton NorwoodMr. Jerry Carlton Norwood passed away after a long illness late in the evening on October 5, 2018 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee. His wife and daughters were at his bedside during his peaceful transition.

Mr. Norwood was born on February 15, 1951, to Herbert Stanley and Mary Evelyn Taylor Norwood in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Both parents have preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of over 46 years, Marjorie Helen; his daughters Tiffany Lee (Christopher Michael) Norwood Ayers and Melanie Brooks (Bradley Franklin) Norwood Mays; three grandchildren, Jaden Christopher Ayers, Calla Shannen Ayers, and Helena Elyse Ayers; three siblings, Ronnie Norwood, Sandy Christy, and Darlene Norwood.

Jerry worked in the automotive industry for over 40 years for Libbey Owens Ford, Saturn, and GM. Carpentry and mechanical pursuits were life-long passions. He also held a life long addiction to music and classic cars.

Mr. Norwood seemed cantankerous to some, but his heart surpassed comprehension. He often survived on little to no sleep, while working several jobs to provide for his family. His greatest concern was for “his girls” during his last moments, and for that they are eternally thankful.

Jerry’s girls would like to extend special thanks to Roger Petersen (and his family). The friendship, comfort, and assistance they have bestowed at all times have, and always will be, a treasured gift.

Also, they are grateful for friends Bill and Lynn Patterson and their family for their assistance in this difficult time, as well as the staffs of St. Thomas West and Maury Regional for caring for Jerry through the past couple of months.

Funeral services to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Jerry’s daughters, Tiffany Ayers and Melanie Mays will lead the eulogy.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family and condolences may be made atwww.williamsfh.com.
