Etha Mae Laughmiller Garner – Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Etha Mae Laughmiller Garner, 90, will be Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle,  with Dr. Charles Betts officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be  from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the sanctuary, prior to the service.

Mrs. Garner died on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  She was born January 30, 1928, in Morgan County to Malcolm David Laughmiller and Freddie Mae Call Laughmiller.  She was a graduate of Falkville High School, Class of 1945. Mrs. Garner married her husband, James Earl Garner and enrolled in the Nashville Business College. After his return from World War II they lived and worked a short time in Birmingham, before moving to Decatur. She was employed by Monsanto/ Chemstrand for 30 years as an Accounting Clerk. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she served many leadership roles in Hartselle First United Methodist and later in Central United Methodist of Decatur. She was very active in the United Methodist Women organization.  Mrs. Garner was also very involved in her community, serving in the establishment of the Hartselle Beautification Committee, the Thirty-nine Plus Club, and AARP in both Hartselle and Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her husband: James Earl Garner, a daughter: Cathy Anne Garner, a sister: Evelyn Helms and her parents.

Two Daughters:
Sherri Garner Rahm, Decatur, AL and
Carolyn Sue Garner, Palm City, FL

One Brother:
Malcolm David Laughmiller, Jr.

Two Sisters:
Mary Katherine Davis and
Martha Byrd Hall

Three Grandchildren and
Five Great Grandchildren
