Earlean “Wessie” French Gray – Obituary

D.10.5.18 Earlean Gray.jpgEarlean “Wessie” French Gray died Tuesday, October 2nd at her home. Her funeral will be Saturday, October 6th at noon at Macedonia CPCA Church in Decatur. Burial will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. She will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be today from 10-4 at Jackson Memory Funeral Home, followed by visitation at Macedonia CPCA Church from 6-8.

Ms. Gray was born on September 11, 1939 in the Whiteside community (Limestone County) to the late James Eddie French and Bennie Lee Balentine French. She was a well-liked and well-rounded person who enjoyed many things in life such as worshiping with her church family at Macedonia CPCA Church, studying with her Sunday school and Bible study class at Macedonia CPCA Church, exercising with her water aerobics class at the Aquadome and playing Bid Wiz with her friends at Turner Surles Resource Center. She was preceded in death by two sons, Leo Samuel Gray Jr. and Rev. Raphael K. Gray; her parents; two sisters, Julia Mae French Mallory and Marion L. Thompson; and brother Charlie French.

She is survived by two devoted daughters, Michele Gray King (Guy) and Stephanie A. Gray.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Decatur Negro High School/Lakeside High School Scholarship Fund C/O Olivia Moore, 302 13th Ave. NW, Decatur, AL 35601.
