William Stanley ElkinsWilliam Stanley “ Billy” Elkins, 66, of Florence, died Sunday, September 30, 2018.

The service to remember his life will be at 7:00 p.m Friday October 5, 2018. at Elkins Funeral Home with Bro Henry Melton officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m.

Billy was born in Florence and was a 1971 graduate of Bradshaw High School where he was voted a class favorite his senior year. He had played church-league basketball and as an adventurer he enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking, boating and water skiing.

Billy had a gentle heart, a great smile, lots of charm and a distinctive laugh which were enjoyed by all his friends. Growing up, there was always a German Shepherd family member and he had a great affection for dogs throughout his life.

Billy worked for several years as a manager of the family business, Elkins and Son Funeral Homes and also at Howe Mortuary, Boulder, CO. Later, Billy humbly shared his story how the Lord lifted him up to a useful and productive life. He was made a counselor at Outreach Ministries of Alabama, Valhermoso Springs and continued to mentor and inspire others.

His love for the outdoors and his artistic eye led him to landscaping and meeting C.K Irby, who became a mentor. He worked and managed Green Valley Nursery in Greenhill for almost five years and it was there God put Corinne Fleenor, a special love, in his life.

He attended Faith Church and especially appreciated the friendship of Bro. Henry Melton and Bro. Eugene Richey.

He was preceded in death by his father Noah Stanley Elkins in 2010 and mother Mildred Adele Holland Elkins in 2017. He shared his April 25th birthday with his grandfather, William Canon Holland, Sr.

Billy was proud of his sons, William Stanley Elkins II and Holland Noah Elkins; and is also survived by a granddaughter Kayland Grace Elkins; the mother of his sons, Linda Conner Elkins; a sister Jean Elizabeth Chenault (Steve); nieces and nephews.

Billy’s love and friendship with Linda lasted a lifetime.  She was his partner in crime and he often referred to them both as Bonnie and Clyde.  She bore him two beautiful children and was by his side till the very end
