William Doyal Thomas 85, of Hartselle passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Thomas was born November 28, 1932 in Bear Creek, Alabama to James Wilburn and Bessie Brown Thomas. He was a retired Master Sargent in the Air Force after 20 years of service. He was called to preach in April 1950. He was the pastor of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Corene Thomas, one son Terry Thomas (Jackie), two daughters, Rhonda Gilbreath (Glenn), Gina Jones (David); one brother Wayne Thomas; six grandchildren, Tim Thomas, Amanda Vandiver (Michael), Eric Gilbreath, Ryan Gilbreath Christine Wise (Zachary) and Dianna Rhoden (Joshua) and five great grandchildren, Mattie Thomas, Rose Vandiver, Ivy Gilbreath and Will and Allie Wise. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from noon until 2:00pm at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home with a 2:00pm chapel service following with Elder Matthew Stepp officiating. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Burningtree Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, David Hall Daniel Hall, Mark Hall, Robert Hall; grandsons, Tim Thomas, Eric Gilbreath, Ryan Gilbreath; grandsons-in-laws Michael Vandiver, Zachary Wise and Joshua Rhoden.
