D.9.27.18 R LKearney.jpgLifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan Roger D. Kearbey passed away peacefully on September 24, 2018, enveloped by the love of his family and friends and in the middle of a late season charge by the team he loved. He was 76. Born in Poplar Bluff, Montana on August 4, 1942, Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Sittason of Decatur, his adoring children and grandchildren, Jeff and Tara Kearbey and their kids, Taylor and Matthew of Memphis, Tennessee and Robert and Amy Kearbey and their kids Owen, Graham and Russell of Bethesda, Maryland. He is also survived by his first wife, Shirley; brother, Alan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ruby of Poplar Bluff.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Roger loved good jokes and good barbecue and he cherished time with friends. Roger made friends easily, loved with his full heart, and valued all of the special relationships he had with so many people he had met throughout his life. Whether it be high school friends that he kept up with constantly, military mates that he served with during the Vietnam war, everyone who crossed his path in the cookie business, and countless others who to anyone else would have been passing acquaintances, Roger’s world was full of people he loved and who loved him. His most recent pastime was boxing. Roger solidified wonderful friendships with his coach and fellow boxing partners at Rock Steady Boxing of Decatur, and he adored his time in the boxing gym.

A memorial service to commemorate Roger’s life will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1450 Sparkman Street NW, Hartselle on Friday, September 28th at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
