FLORENCE-Renaissance Man Triathlon announces new owners, new date, and the addition of a shorter course option.

The Renaissance Man Triathlon founders/owners Bradley and Jordyn Dean announced today that one of the nation’s largest full-service professional multisport event companies, Team Magic, will be the new owners of the race. They are adding it to their 15+ professionally produced events across the south eastern region including races in Nashville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Gulf Shores. Team Magic is co-owned by Therese Bynum and Faye Yates. Bynum and Yates serve as race directors at all Team Magic events and have over 30 years of experience. Both Bynum and Yates are USA Triathlon Certified Race Directors and have served on regional and national committees.

Updated Name

The Renaissance Man Triathlon will now be called the Renaissance City Triathlon. With the addition of the sprint distance race they will be dropping “man” and replacing it with “city”. This will also be inline with Team Magic’s other race names like “Music City Triathlon” in Nashville, Tn.

New 2019 Race Date

The 2019 Renaissance City Triathlon will take place Saturday May 18th 2019 at McFarland Park. Just after sunrise, athletes from all over the southeast region will begin charging the waters of the Tennessee River from the beach area at Mcfarland Park to compete in the Renaissance City Sprint & Olympic-Distance Triathlons.

New Shorter Distance Race Option

This year will feature an additional sprint distance race that will attract even more athletes and beginners that may have been intimidated by the longer olympic distance race the Renaissance Man Triathlon has been known for. The Olympic distance race will still be part of the event and provide the same scenic and challenging courses as in past years.

The races feature unique courses showcasing the best of Florence as triathletes swim in the Tennessee River, Bike a scenic loop up Savannah Highway and back via Gunwaleford Road, then finish it off with a run through downtown Florence’s many historic locations, including UNA’s lion habitat and Alabama’s only Frank Lloyd Wright Home.

Legacy

The Deans are excited that the race will continue to grow past their 5+ years of effort as founders and race directors who created and managed the event. The Renaissance Man Triathlon was created by husband and wife team, Bradley and Jordyn Dean, in 2012 to create a multisport endurance event much like the events Team Magic produces across the South. Through some creative thinking and help from Florence Tourism and the Shoals community it became a reality over 5 years ago and has been the USAT Southeast Region Special Qualifier race for two years as well as giving back to charity organizations. There will be a Bradley and Jordyn Legacy Award at the Renaissance City Triathlon’s events going forward. The Deans are proud of what they have built and are excited to see the race continue and grow.
