Natchez Trace Parkway Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of National Trails System Act with Hike

 Image result for Blackland Prairie section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic TrailTUPELO, MS – To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, the Natchez Trace Parkway invites visitors on a hike along the Blackland Prairie section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail (Scenic Trail) on Saturday September 29, 2018 at 10:00 am. Join a park ranger for this free two-mile guided hike to immerse yourself in forest, fresh air, and wildlife. While the hike will be mostly shaded, please dress appropriately and bring water.

The National Trail System Act establishes National Scenic Trails as recreational trails of more than 100 miles in Related imagelength that provide “for the conservation and enjoyment of the nationally significant scenic, historic, natural, or cultural qualities of the areas through which such trails may pass.” The Scenic Trail is one of 11 National Scenic Trails and has five sections that can be used for hiking and in some areas horseback riding.
