Averine Baker Nix – Obituary

Funeral for Averine Baker  Nix, 85, of Decatur will be Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Parkway Funeral Home, at 2:00 PM with Nicky Pressnell officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Mrs. Nix, who died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital, was born July 24, 1933, to Aro Baker and Grace Hopper Baker.  She was a member of Dancy Chapel Church of Christ .  She enjoyed volunteering at Parkway Hospital, making quilts, flowers, church and cooking for all who were in need. She was raised in Eva and married. When she and her husband Roland married they moved to Leesburg, Florida and raised two daughters. In the 70’s they moved to Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roland Nix and
grandchild – Drew Ferguson
Survivors include:
2 daughters – Phyllis (Barry) Ferguson and Karen Nix
2 brothers – Eugene Baker and Arlon Baker
2 sisters – Temple Aycock and Vonda Richardson
4 grandchild – Kelly Roberts, Dana Olukoya, Hilary Freeman and Trey Ferguson
2 great grandchildren – Sylas Schroeder and Elijah Freeman
Pallbearers will be Ken Overton, Dale Brown, Sonny Woodall, Abayomi Olukoya, Kevin Freeman and Trey Ferguson.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude and Hospice of the Valley.
