Lillian Irene Rogers Pitts, 91, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday.  She was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee. She worked hard to provide for her family. She began her career as a civil servant in Washington, D.C. in 1944, and retired in 1987 from the State of Alabama. One of her jobs was at the shoe factory in Huntsville.

Lillian was a wonderful cook, loved flowers (especially in her yard), and cared for her family in the most loving way. She was the eldest of her eight siblings and cared for her younger brothers and sisters after her mother died at age 39 and her father at age 54. Her love and concern for her entire family was unending and unselfish.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, J.P. Pitts, her parents, Timothy Hue and Maymie Lena Jacks Rogers, son, Gary Keith Pitts, and six siblings. Survivors include her children, Brenda Gail Pitts and Troy Wayne Pitts; granddaughter, Christie Pitts Hamby; great-granddaughter, Madalyn Grace Hamby; daughter-in-law, Melita Lynn Reeves; and siblings, Mary Rogers Goodspeed and Jerry H. Rogers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 14 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
