ATHENS — “One thing Main Street Alabama heard loud and clear from our community during their recent Resource Visit, was the desire for music and events after hours downtown.  Fridays After Five provides both great music and fun for the entire family” says Tere Richardson, Athens Main Street Executive Director.

Downtown merchants will be open Friday, September 21 until 8:00 pm offering special sales and activities.  Vendors will be setup along Marion Street to sell art, handmade items, jewelry and more! Enjoy the food trucks and local restaurants for food and drink specials.  A Kids Zone will be set up in The Exchange on Marion with face painting, corn hole, bowling and other kid-friendly activities.  In addition to all this fun, Alabama-born Singer-Songwriter/Producer, Erik Smallwood will be performing on the Courthouse steps from 6:00-8:00 pm.

One of the goals of Athens Main Street is to create a calendar of events promoting downtown’s unique characteristics and business establishments.  Fridays After Five is just one of the many events that provide visitors to the Square the ability to enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment all in one place.

Other upcoming events over the next twelve months include, the Bicentennial Christmas Open House, November 16th, 17th, and 18th. Athens Main Street partners with the City of Athens, Athens Limestone Chamber of Commerce and Athens-Limestone County Tourism to create a holiday celebration 200 years in the making.    Many of the businesses downtown will be participating in the Window Decorating Contest, themed “Bicentennial Christmas.” There will be ice skating, singers on the Square, and many more holiday activities.  Details to come.

On Saturday, December 8th, join us downtown to vote for the best cider on the Square, as you visit our shops and check items off your Christmas list.  Sippin Cider is always a tasty way to shop.Image result for Bicentennial Christmas Open House Athens Alabama

Speaking of tasty, ushering in 2019 will be Chocolate Walk on February 9th. This will certainly satisfy that sweet tooth. Many of the merchants downtown will have special chocolate treats.  Buy your tickets early, they go fast!

“Let the good times roll” on March 2nd!  The second annual Mardi Gras Bash will be held at the Limestone Event Center. Come to eat, drink and dance!
