Charles Wayne Nelson – Obituary

Funeral service for Charles Wayne Nelson, 71, of Decatur, will be Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 1 p.m. at First Independent Methodist Church (Flint) with Rev. Hal Daigre officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Nelson died on Saturday, September 8, 2018. He was born March 16, 1947, in Morgan County to Quimby A. Nelson and Elsie Curbow Nelson. Charles was treasurer and a founding member of the Flint Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Morgan County Volunteer Firefighters Association and served as a Flint City Police Officer and a Lawrence County Sheriff Deputy. He was employed prior to retirement, as a Security Officer for the Lurleen B. Wallace Center. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one sister Becky Turner (Clay), Decatur; two nieces, Bonita Riddle (Jonathan) and Kayla Jenson (Jake); three great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Flint Volunteer Fire Department members and members of the Morgan County Firefighters Association.
