Eugene Pickard – Obituary

Eugene Pickard, 92, of Florence, passed away on September 9, 2018 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehab Center.  He served in the U.S. Army Armor Division, during WWII and was decorated as one of the earliest U.S. troops to enter Germany in March of 1945. He was honorably discharged in June 1946.

He was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church, Men’s Garden Club, Entomological Society, and a Mason.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 10 – 11 a.m. at North Wood United Methodist Church. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with Reverend Scott Coats officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ovelia Pickard; and sisters, Madlean Pickard, Ellean Huffman, and Jessie Pickard.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Fowler Pickard of Florence, AL; son, Terry Pickard (Tammy) of McKenzie, AL; daughter, Rhonda Hairell (Lewis) of Florence, AL ; sister, Dean Berry of Haleyville, AL; grandchildren, Kylie DeLoach, Jim Pickard, Gene Pickard, and Kacy Hairell; great-grandchildren, Carter DeLoach, Caden DeLoach, Isabel DeLoach, Cannon DeLoach, Bradley Pickard, Riley Pickard, and Brooks Pickard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Pickard, Jim Pickard, Ben DeLoach, Carl Bullard, Jerry Dowd, and Vance Persall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwood United Methodist Church.
