William Edmond (Ed) Glynn Jr., 73, of Huntsville made his transition on August 30, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 10, 1945, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
After three days of hospitalization, surrounded by his family and friends, Ed slipped away in the wee hours of the morning while almost everyone was sleeping. He had lived the past seven years as a heroic struggle following a devastating spinal cord injury, and he was simply too exhausted to continue the fight. He left us as he lived, on his own terms.
Ed was a long-time resident of Huntsville, with temporary moves across the country, always coming back to the place he called home. He spent his working life on his passion for space travel, working on the Saturn 5 up through the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station, with sojourns into Defense contracting. He tried his hand at sheep-keeping and spent a good dozen years in spiritual pursuits until he realized spirit doesn’t require pursuing. He was devoted to his wife and his children and proud of his extended family and his Irish heritage. We will miss his steady guidance, his wicked wit and his amazing capacity for love and forgiveness.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Victoria (Hearren) Glynn; three sons, William Gray (Sunny) Glynn, Randy Evan Glynn and Nikolas Jon (Niko) Bates; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Glynn; six grandchildren, Brooke Taylor, James, Kristabelle Rose, Cortney, Brittni and Fillip; one brother, Tom N. Glynn; a nephew, Larson Glynn; a niece, Alyssa Kathryne (Glynn) Ezell; three great-nephews, Ian, Duncan and Merrick; and one great-niece, Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Glynn Sr. and Mildred (Kavanaugh) Glynn.
There will be a gathering of family and friends in the near future to honor the life of this fine man. It is our fervent hope that his beloved Corgi, Boggan, was there to greet him at his passing. Following his wishes, his family will take his ashes to be spread on Irish soil. Please send memorials to your favorite Progressive causes, in his name.
