Helen G. Childress, age 92, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Childress was born September 27, 1925 in Dyersburg, TN to Francis Elmo Gore, Sr. and Edith Muriel Mathis Gore.
She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Elain Glaze of Athens; son, Ronald L. Childress of Athens; grandsons, Gregory Glaze (Melissa) and Scotty Glaze (Kristi); great-grandchildren, Amber Glaze, Aaron Glaze, Anna Glaze, Tyler Glaze, Brandon Glaze, Ryan Glaze and Adam Glaze; sister-in-law, Carolyn Gore; cousin, Glenn Mathis; 2nd cousin, Janet Leigh Mills; special friends, Linda Brye, Benjamin John Dougherty, and Tom and Barbara Mendryzcki.
Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Francis Elmo Gore, Jr., Richard Mack Gore and Darrell Gore.
She was raised in the Assembly of God Church. She was very creative, loved to crochet and work puzzles and was also an avid reader. Later in life, she was involved with the Awareness Ministries in Huntsville.
Services for Mrs. Childress are Monday, September 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Shearl Bean officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 3, 2018 from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside Services will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, TN with Bob Somerville officiating.
Pallbearers are Greg Glaze, Scotty Glaze, Ryan Glaze, Brandon Glaze, Brad Gore, Ramon Daniel, Adam Glaze and Aaron Glaze.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
