Billy Alva Carter – Obituary

Billy Alva Carter, 86, of Decatur will have a visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel and a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Reverend Randy Berry and Dr. Harold Fanning officiating. The burial will be in Roselawn cemetery.

Mr. Carter, who passed away August 29, 2018 at his residence, was born May 28, 1932 in Franklin County to Alva Carter and Evelyn Cole Carter. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Austinville. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army where he received a Bronze Star. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeannine Roper.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Jackson Carter; one daughter, Vickie Louise Carter Jackson and her husband, Alvin; one son, Phillip Billy Carter and his wife, Marcia; grandchildren, Jacqui Carter Slusher and her husband, Will, Jessica Carter, Susan Ruggiano and her husband, Joel, Caleb Book, Jacob Book and his wife, Savannah; great-grandchildren, Abigail Ruggiano, Benjamin Ruggiano, Lincoln Slusher; and three sisters, Betty Seal, Mary Jane Carter, Martha Evelyn Sorrels.

“He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.” The family would like to thank Alacare Hospice for their services.
