Truman Hansel Guyton – Obituary

Truman Hansel Guyton, 80, died Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1938 in Monroe County, MS. to James Carl Guyton, Sr. and Eva Strawbridge Guyton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1955 to 1998 and retired as Staff Sargeant E-6. He served in Alaska, Germany and the Dominican Republic. Service medals he received were Good Conduct with four loops, National Defense Medal, Army Expedition Medal, Humanitarian Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal U.S. Army and service ribbons for Honorable Service. He served in the Alabama National Guard eleven years with five months in Panama. He was a carpenter for forty years and was a member of New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.


Services will be Thursday, August 30, 5 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Terry Howard officiating. Burial will be in Pilot Hill Cemetery, Vina, AL. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.


He is survived by one son – Wesley Guyton; five grandchildren – Jeniece Winstead (Waylon), Bethany Stewart (James), James White, Christina Howard (Jake) and Allen Guyton (Breanna); twelve great-grandchildren; one brother – Gredle Guyton and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia Jane Worthy Guyton, a daughter, Janet Lee Jaco, a son, James “Jimmy” Guyton, his parents and siblings.


Pallbearers will be Wesley Guyton, James Stewart, Allen Guyton, John Shackleford, Waylon Winstead, Roger Lucas, Jake Howard and D.J. Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be Evan Howard, Noah Howard, Jayden Guyton, Samuel Howard and Mason Stewart.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pilot Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Brenda Turbyfill, 7691 Highway 19, Vina, Al. 35593 or at Community Spirit Bank.


Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 12-5 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.
