Joel Alan Harper – Obituary

Joel Alan Harper, born on April 25, 1962, passed away on August 18, 2018. A native of Huntsville, AL, he is remembered with fondness by his family, friends and the musical community across the nation. Joel was a land surveyor for 20 years, as well as being an accomplished musician, songwriter, and guitar builder. He played with the band, Doc Holliday, and other talented musicians across the USA, sold music to artists such as Vince Gill, and built guitars for several artists, such as the last four for Rascal Flatts, that are currently being used and can be seen in their YouTube videos.

Joel has been a positive influence in the lives of many by sharing his faith and bringing them to a life in Christ.

Joel is survived by his wife, Melissa Harper; brother, Glen Harper; sisters, Amelia Kelly and husband, Matthew, and Junko Cook; sons, Chris Harper and wife, Lauren, and James Harper; stepson, Michael Green and wife, Jennifer; stepdaughter, Olivia Green and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Savannah, Trinity, Hannah, Haleigh, Michael Jr., Adriana, and Xavier. Joel was preceded in death by his parents, James Warren and Geneva Neal Harper.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will follow at 11 in the chapel with the Rev. Brian Milby officiating.
