James Austin Hill – Obituary

The funeral service for James Austin Hill, age 84 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Brother David Holcombe and Sister Alice Watts officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Hill passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Dadeville Health Care Center. A native of Alexander City and a former resident of Jasper, Mr. Hill lived most of his life in Clay County. He was a graduate of Lineville High School and served in the United States Army. After returning from an overseas active duty assignment, Mr. Hill joined the Alabama Army National Guard. After 20 years of combined service, he retired in the grade of staff sergeant. Mr. Hill had also worked for Alabama Power as a lineman and for Ace Products. He was a member of the Lineville Masonic Lodge # 219.

Mr. Hill is survived by one son, James Stanley Hill and daughter-in-love, Paula Hill of Lineville; one sister, Dot Newman of Dadeville; two brothers: Thomas Hill of Lineville and Daniel Hill (Deborah) of South Carolina and two grandchildren: Solomon Hill and Jonathan Hill, both of Lineville.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Kaylor Hill and Kythia Hendrix Hill; his wife, Sara Nell Hill; one son, Jimmy Dale Hill and two grandchildren: Zach and Jonah Hill.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Hill, Solomon Hill, Nick Vaughn, Wade Watts, Lauren Harvell, Billy Dennison and Chris Davis. Ricky Martin, Jack East, Johnny Newman and Ronnie Newman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland.
