Lional Hammett, 73, of Boaz, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2018. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Hammett was born on March 29, 1945

. It is Lional’s desire that our memories remain on the happiest and brightest days he shared with us. Moments he recalls filled with smiles in an atmosphere of laughter and joy. He wants us to fill the sorrow of our loss with these forever memories.

Much of Lional’s adult life was spent building and running a successful garment business. After many years, he retired and pursued his hobby of working with wood and making bird houses. He enjoyed carpentry and gardening. His horses, Major and Monty, gave him great pleasure. Lional’s legacy lives on through the lives of many family and friends: wife, Jackie Croft of 24 years; three children: Phillip Hammett (Sally), Jonathan Hammett (Sonia), and Cindy King (Jimmy); eight grandchildren: Alex, Blake, Brook, Heath, Joshua, Justin, Noah, and Zach; two sisters: Ann Fowler and Gayle Smith (Thomas); Aunt Joyce Sewell, Uncle Jimmy Harold; and two great great nieces: Makinna and Lainey.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Hammett, Grant Lee, Paul Phillips, Bill Rivers, Rusty Ennis, Noah Hammett, Zachary Hammett, and Blake King.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Johnny Phillips, Steve Phillips Ricky Umphery and Heath Hammett.

His parents, LB and Nettie Hammett, and brother-in-law, Earl Fowler preceded Lional in death.

The family would like to thank Alabama Hospice Care of Birmingham for their assistance and care.

The funeral service will be held at McRae Funeral Home on Thursday, August 16, 2018 located in Boaz, AL. Brother Cody Nugent will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 11:00 AM with the celebration of his life beginning at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Snead Memorial Cove Cemetery.
