Billy Gene Wilson, 85, of Florence, passed away on August 8, 2018.
Billy was a Korean War veteran, having served with the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1959 with a BS degree in mechanical engineering. He worked civil service for 33 years, first at Brookley AFB in Mobile, then at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City and lastly at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He enjoyed being a member of the Florence Lions for a number of years and served as their treasurer.
Billy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Wilson; sister, Barbara Duncan (Erby) of Henagar, Alabama; brothers, David Wilson (Sharon) of Murphy, North Carolina and Wayne Wilson (Dottie) of Rome, Georgia; nephews, Dan Hendrix (Li) of Phoenix, Arizona, Kenny Wilson (Kellie) of Rossville, Georgia, Chris Wilson (Marla) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Tim Wilson of Rome, Georgia, Jeff Wilson of Rome, Georgia and Jason Lester (Abby) of Nashville, Tennessee; two nieces, Kim Wilson and Kelly Wilson (Arnie), both of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and brothers-in-law, Hugh Lester (Linda) of Bonaire, Georgia and Larry White of Henagar. He is also survived by two godchildren, Jeff Byars (Rhonda) of Austin, Texas and Julie Rady of Corpus Christi, Texas.
