Joe Black, age 85, passed away peacefully at Redstone Village, Huntsville, AL, on August 8, 2018. He was born in Decatur, AL to parents, Lonnie McDonald Black, and Lois Morris Black. Mr. Black attended Riverside and Decatur High School and Athens College. He was a football manager for Coach Ogle’s Decatur Red Raiders; is a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Monsanto with 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Heflin Black; his parents; 4 brothers(Otha Black, Morris Black, Greer black, and Gene Black); 2 sisters (Gurstle Rogers, and Mary Houston); and two siblings that did not survive childhood. He is survived by his two children Cecillia J. Black (Patrick Graft) of Bristow, VA; William J. Black(Gena) of Huntsville, AL; one granddaughter, Audrey Black, of Huntsville, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Chapel, on Saturday, August 11th from 1:30p.m. until 3:00p.m. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Roger Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur City Cemetery.
