Frances Purvis Rees – Obituary

Frances Purvis Rees, age 83, of Bluffview Drive, the Scant City area of Arab, died on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Athens Health and Rehabilitation. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family members.
Mrs. Rees was born in Jackson, Mississippi, November 30, 1934, the daughter of Marvin Sylvester Purvis and Emma Reed Purvis. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1953. In 1956, she wed Jimmy Walker Rees and was married 54 years before he passed away on November 24, 2010.
They lived in Huntsville from 1958 – 1964 prior to making their home in Arab. She was an amazing homemaker and served her family, community and church her entire life. After moving to Arab, they became active members of Arab First United Methodist Church and she was involved with Methodist Women’s Group. Frances and Jim enjoyed traveling with dear friends and family, visiting all fifty states and many places overseas.

Frances is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Ken and Cyndi Rees of Arab; daughter and son-in-law: Drs. Cindy and Dale Allen, D.M.D.’s of Madison; six grandchildren: Mark Christopher Allen (Katie), David Michael Allen, Nathan Andrew Allen, Mary Catherine Allen, Blake Walker Rees (Lindsay), and Cody Walker Rees. She is also survived by a sister: Lil Purvis Sandidge of Pueblo, Colorado.
In addition to her husband Jim, she was predeceased by three sisters: Dorothy Purvis Paxton, Lyda Purvis Lifer and Audrey Purvis Sauls and one brother Clayton Purvis.
Funeral service will be at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Mike Shirley officiating. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Mark Allen, David Allen, Nathan Allen, Cody Rees and son-in-law, Dale Allen.
