Barbara Ann Dean Sheffield Holmes – Obituary

Barbara Ann Dean Sheffield Holmes, 73, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. We will miss her beautiful blue eyes and contagious laughter. She was a friend to all who knew her, and she never met a stranger. Barbara has ascended to eternal glory where she is reunited with her beloved husband Carl, who was called away on December 17, 2016.

Barbara was born July 9, 1945, in Fulton to Swep and Vera Garrett Dean. She attended Dorsey School and Itawamba Agricultural High School. She later received her degree in secretarial science from Itawamba Junior College. She was employed in the garment industry and was also self employed. Barbara loved traveling, gardening, and reading, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, whom she adored.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 9, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Barbara leaves behind her children, Sherry Smith (Tim) of Peaceful Valley and Elliot Sheffield (Sharon) of Tupelo; stepsons, Jerry Sheffield (Martha) of Fulton, Mitchell Sheffield (Joyce) of Mobile, Ala., and Rodney Holmes (Suzanne) of Golden; stepdaughters, Patricia Roswell (Charles) of Mobile, Ala., and Teri Ladd (Vern) of Fresno, Calif.; her sister, Angela Dean (Jeff Jones) of Ballardsville; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Sheffield and Carl Holmes, and her parents.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be sent to the Andrews Chapel Cemetery Fund.
