Mr. Douglas Calvin Leech, 67, died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House following an extended illness. He was born in Aberdeen, MS, January 21, 1951 to Andrew Leech and Earline Kuykendall Leech. Doug lived for 67 years, without saying one word or taking one step, but he did more to spread joy and the gospel of Christ by his life than most of us can ever hope to do. First you saw his great beaming smile, followed closely by blue eyes that had love shooting out of them like stars. He loved and was loved extravagantly, by family, friends, anyone who knew him or even knew of him. His love, like the Father’s, was pure, unconditional and very exuberant. For 39 years he enjoyed life in Aberdeen, MS with his parents and sister. His favorite things were daily rides, visits with family and friends, being outside, and watching the people around him. Always curious and interested in others, his sweet personality drew you in and made you smile. Following the death of his parents, he spent the remainder of his life at Rolling Hills Developmental Center in Starkville, MS. He enjoyed life with this family and received the greatest care. Through many hard times and changes in his life, he showed great strength, patience, acceptance, courage and determination. He inspired these traits in everyone else. To his family, and especially his beloved nephew, Jeff, he gave his deepest love and biggest smiles. His strength is his legacy. His life is a victory. Leaving a wheelchair for running the streets of heaven, he will be remembered because of his example of love.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 7, 2018, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel with Bro. Danny Dabbs officiating. Private burial will follow in the family plot at Young Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 AM to service time.
Survivors include his sister, Alice Hurt (David) of Tupelo; nephew, Jeff Hartley (Sofie) of Flowood; uncle, Ralph Kuykendall (Jane) of Amory, cousins, Leech, Kuykendall, Hartley and Hurt families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Earline Leech and brother-in-law, Lloyd Hartley.
Pallbearers will be Butch Robertson, Charlie Field, Eddie Leech, Carter Dobbs, Larry Kuykendall, and Mike Kuykendall.
