SHEFFIELD– The fifth annual Bank Independent School Share drive was conducted from July 9 through July 20.  Thanks to the many local citizens who donated school supplies at Bank Independent’s 27 branches and those who helped “Stuff the Bus” at Walmart locations in Decatur and Florence, sending children back to school will be less stressful for many area families. This year’s goal for the drive was 15,000 items. There were 19,904 items collected, which is more than double the 9,417 items collected in 2017.  In addition, cash donations totaling more than $400 were collected and distributed.

The school supplies will be distributed through local organizations in each market, including Committee on Church Cooperation in Decatur, Sidney’s Safe! Foundation and New Beginnings Church in the Shoals, and the Department of Human Resources in Madison, Limestone, Franklin and Lawrence countiesHarriett Mathews, with the Committee on Church Cooperation in Decatur, Alabama, expressed her organization’s gratitude by saying, “Bank Independent is faithful to the communities it serves. They make School Share happen each year because they care about the success of our children. We are honored to be a partner in equipping kids of struggling families with some critical tools of learning, thereby increasing their likelihood of success in the classroom.”
