Charles F. (Charlie) Thompson – Obituary

Charles F. (Charlie) Thompson, age 98, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, TN.

Charles was born in Memphis, TN on November 17, 1919 to the late Charles Stephen and Elisabeth “Hume” Thompson. Charles was married to the late Angela C. Thompson for 75 wonderful years. He served honorably during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Flusser. He was former owner of Lewisburg Auto Parts in Lewisburg, TN and Columbia Auto Parts in Columbia, TN as a NAPA Jobber for over 40 years. He was an avid bowler until age 97 in various Columbia leagues and was in the Hall of Fame at Galaxy Lanes. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was the eldest parishioner and communicant at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Columbia, TN.

Charles is survived by his daughters: Carol Carson of Columbia and Marilyn (Ronnie) Scroggins of Memphis, TN; Sons: Kevin (Donna) Thompson of Columbia, Terry (Janice) Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN, and Kenneth (Marjorie) Thompson of Santa Fe, TN; 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Angela C. Thompson, parents, Stephen and Elisabeth Thompson, and brothers, Raymond and Bernard Thompson.

Services for Charles will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 6, 2018 at St. Catherine Church in Columbia, TN. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by The American Legion Herbert Griffin Post 19. Father Davis Chackaleckel will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN and a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Chris Carson, Brent Scroggins, Randy Thompson, Jason Scroggins, Ben Thompson, Brad Thompson, Patrick Thompson, and Matthew Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers: Member of Columbia Bowling League.
