Larry Wayne Young – Obituary

Larry Wayne Young, 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 after an extended illness. Larry was born on October 5, 1941 and was a graduate of Central High School, the University of North Alabama, and The University of Alabama.

Larry was a longtime educator of more than 30 years teaching at Central, Coffee, Bradshaw and at Clifton, Tennessee, and was the Alabama DECA state teacher of the year in 1977. He was a lifelong member of the Central Church of Christ and recently of Cornerstone Church of Christ.

Visitation is Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Spry-Williams Funeral Home in Florence from 10 a.m. to noon with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in the Central Heights Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Anderson, Steven Bevis, Marshall Humphries, Jerry Martin, Tommy McDonald and Harry Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Helton, Greg Rhodes, Ralph Thompson and Larry’s nephews.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Clemmons Young and sons, Dr. Brett Young (Jill) of Atlanta, Georgia and Blake Young (Tonya) of Florence, and beloved grandchildren Olivia, Eliza, Cyrus and Blakely, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Callie Young; brothers, Billy and David Young and sister Imogene Bevis.
