Ezra Witt Proffitt – Obituary

Funeral service for Ezra Witt Proffitt, age 95, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, August 1, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with Tim McHenry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home. Interment will be in Isenberg Cemetery, Tompkinsville, KY.

Mr. Proffitt, who passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at his residence, was born October 8, 1922, in Edmonton, KY to the late Claude and Gladys Proffitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Gladys Proffitt; one daughter, Connie Lucas; and his wife, Bernetta Proffitt.

She is survived by his two daughters, Becky Noble (David) of Decatur, AL, and Janice Kay Bowman (Harlan) of Nashville, TN; son in law, Rick Lucas of Nashville, TN; one brother, Glenn Proffitt of Tompkinsville, KY; one sister, Leatha Maerene Bartley of Tompkinsville, KY; six grandchildren, Mike Lucas (Leah), Chris Lucas (Willow), Tim Lucas, Mandi Neal (Cammie), Whitney Bowers (Caleb), and Andrew Noble. Eight great-grandchildren, Anna Lucas, Caiden Lucas, Summer Lucas, Kaia Lucas, Sativa Lucas, Bryson Neal, Evan Neal, and Zaylei Bowers.

Mr. Proffitt was a World War II Army veteran. He worked at Lexington Army Depot in shipping and receiving for 30 years. He was an elder at Paris Church of Christ in Paris, KY from 1969 to 1996, and a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Christ in Tompkinsville, KY from 1996 to 2016.
