Landa Thornton Ellsworth – Obituary

Landa Thornton Ellsworth, 80, of Rogersville died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at her residence.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 28, 2018, 1-3 PM at Rogersville First Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 3 PM with Bro. Brandon Raney, Bro. Bertis Ray, and Bro. Rick Ellsworth officiating.  Burial will be at Civitan Cemetery.  Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.

Mrs. Ellsworth was a graduate of Lauderdale County High School, Athens State College with a BS degree in Business Administration, Internship with the Department of Defense as a contract specialist in Defense Contracting.  MS degree in Government/Industry Contracting, graduate school for the study of Psychology graduated in 1995.  She served as counselor at Rogersville First Baptist Church for three years.  She studied with the Baptist Board of Missions and became a member of the Mobile Baptist School of Language, teaching English to internationals.  Also, counseling internationals with any difficulties being in a new country.

Mrs. Ellsworth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Chuck Ellsworth; parents, Villard A. “Doc” and Wilma C. Thornton.

Mrs. Ellsworth is survived by her sons, Stephen Thornton Casteel and Cristopher Dale Casteel (Angie); step daughter, Leanne Lockamy (Ron)granddaughter, Madison Lane Casteel; step grandchildren, Kate and Jennifer Reese, Julie Wimberly, Mary and Laura Ellsworth, Drew and Trent Ellsworth, Zach Roberson (Kristen), and Blake Roberson; step great-grandchildren, Mack Wimberly, Sawyer and Adeline Ellsworth, and Reeder Braden Roberson; brother, Stephen Foster Thornton; niece, Bridget Thornton Lamon; nephew, Derek Thornton (Elenore); great nieces and nephews, Nate and Pierce Thornton and Payton, Grant, and Griffin Lamon.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Casteel, Cristopher Casteel, Derek Thornton, Pat Kelley, Rick Ellsworth, and Griffin Lamon.  Honorary pallbearers will be The Deacon Body of Rogersville First Baptist Church.
